13 September: Passing the test!

Wednesday ended differently than it began. Mercy had quite a bit of air in her stomach from the CPAP machine overnight and was uncomfortable when Erica visited. She didn't have the same nurse who has been a bit of a rock for us this past week. She also had a test scheduled today: an ultrasound to detect any possible brain bleeding.

The doctors yesterday told us that nearly all premies have some form of a bleed and that they measure bleeds on a scale of 1-4. Level 1 bleeds aren't too concerning, and even Level 4 they don't necessarily take action.

Knowing that brain bleeds are common wasn't all that reassuring. It felt more like doctors prepping us for the inevitable bad news coming our way.

Erica didn't have far to travel to see Mercy, she was back in her original room directly above Mercy after getting readmitted yesterday for blood clots and high blood pressure.

With both Erica and Mercy in the hospital as patients and the weight of the test hanging over us, I found my mind jumping to negative conclusions every time Erica told me that doctors were waiting to talk to her, whether they wanted to talk about her or about Mercy.

This afternoon the ultrasound results came in: no bleeding!!

Praise God for His mercies today.
