Four steps forward, one step back

Before today, we had received quite a bit of good news since our last update. On Friday, Erica had a follow-up appointment and was declared free of the blood clots. On Sunday, Mercy had gained weight four days in a row and was up to 1000 g, she was satting well, and she was generally looking like a healthy little baby girl. And I got to hold her for two hours on Sunday, so I was also doing very, very well.

With the win streak, the doctors upped her feedings. Sadly it appears that Mercy isn’t able to handle the additional volume: she had a rough night last night. Her stomach swelled back up, and this morning it was several centimeters larger than it was at its largest point.

This morning they suspended her feedings and reinserted the intermittent suction. We’re back to where we were last week, albeit a bit heavier this time.

If we have to be on this rollercoaster, we’re grateful for all of you who are on it with us. Pray that Mercy keeps gaining weight and manages to stay NEC and illness-free as she works on passing the massive amounts of air in her bowels. Pray also that the docs find a good solution to prevent this air buildup. And praise God for the good news.

So thankful she is gaining weight! And also that Erica is recovering! Praying Mercy rebounds quickly from her tummy problems. God is good.❤️🙏
